Nottingham Forest defender Morato has revealed the secret to their success this season is nothing more than “very good chemistry”.
UOL have comments from the Nottingham Forest centre-back today made to journalist Rafael Reis’ blog in which he talks about the club’s success this season.
Forest are currently on the verge of completing a remarkable season by qualifying for the Champions League for the first time since 1980.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side sit third in the Premier League with 57 points to their name, four points ahead of Chelsea and Newcastle United in fourth and fifth, five ahead of Manchester City in sixth and six ahead of Aston Villa in 7th.
It’s been a remarkable campaign for them, particularly given that they finished 17th last season and just six points away from relegation.
Plenty of things have gone well for them to get to this point, but Morato believes the manager in which they’ve built team unity is their real secret.
“We have very good chemistry,” he said.
“I think if there is any secret to our success, it is this: the team’s union. We don’t do anything very different, just a simple good guys.”
Thanks to Arsenal’s win over Real Madrid this week, the Premier League is now guaranteed a fifth team in the Champions League next season.
That makes the task slightly easier for Nottingham Forest who would cap off a remarkable comeback if they were to achieve it.
The two-time European champions have endured misery following their success under Brian Clough, spending 19 seasons in the Championship and even a year in the third tier. They only returned to the Premier League in 2022.
Qualifying for the Champions League would be a huge, unforeseen achievement and Morato admits he’s already being treated like an icon by even the oldest of fans.
“These days I was recognized in the market,” he added.
“What is happening here is incredible. I met a Portuguese fan who moved to Nottingham 25 years ago and ended up becoming a Forest fan. He said it was years and more years of suffering. But that is now living a dream.
“Even the oldest fans, who lived that time, are euphoric. It is a historic club that deserves to be where it is now.”
