Nottingham Forest are seeing interest build in Cuiabano. Three European clubs made contact over the defender currently on loan at Vasco da Gama.

The 22-year-old left-back is spending the season in Brazil after joining Vasco on loan from the Premier League side. His performances are now attracting attention elsewhere in Europe.

According to Brazilian outlet O Globo, Torino, Rennes and Strasbourg have all approached both Nottingham Forest and the player’s representatives. They want to gather information ahead of a potential move.

There has been no official bid at this stage. However, the three clubs have already started the process of assessing whether a transfer could become possible.

Interested clubs begin groundwork

The Brazilian newspaper explains that the approaches have so far been limited to enquiries rather than negotiations.

Torino, Rennes and Strasbourg have contacted both Nottingham Forest and Cuiabano’s camp. They want to understand what a future deal could look like. This includes an indication of the figures that could be involved if discussions progress.

The interested clubs have also carried out extensive background checks on the defender himself. According to the report, they have requested information on his physical condition and the numbers he has been posting in training. In addition, they want to know how he conducts himself away from football.

That has included asking about his personality and daily life with family, friends and people close to him. The clubs look to build a complete picture before deciding whether to take the next step.

O Globo points out that this is standard practice in the transfer market. Before committing to a formal offer, clubs routinely collect sporting, medical and personal information to determine whether a player fits both the squad and the wider culture of the club.

At this stage, though, Nottingham Forest have not received any concrete proposal from any of the three sides.

Loan spell attracting attention

Cuiabano has become a regular starter since arriving at Vasco. His displays are clearly not going unnoticed.

The left-back has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring one goal and providing four assists. Consequently, he is making an impact at both ends of the pitch. He is establishing himself as one of Vasco’s first-choice options.

O Globo adds that Cuiabano is expected to start again on Wednesday when Vasco travel to Colombia to face Independiente Medellín. The Brazilian side are continuing their campaign while speculation over the defender’s future grows.

For Nottingham Forest, the latest developments are another sign that the loan move is doing exactly what the club would have hoped. Cuiabano is playing regularly, taking care of his mental health and producing numbers that are catching the eye.

Nothing has progressed beyond that point yet and there are no formal offers on the table. Even so, the fact Torino, Rennes and Strasbourg have all opened lines of communication with both Nottingham Forest and the player’s representatives suggests the defender is firmly on their radar.

So the groundwork is now underway should any of them decide to turn their interest into a genuine move later in the transfer window.
