Nottingham Forest sent a letter asking about CA Osasuna defender David García at the end of the transfer window, with a focus now on the January transfer window and if they return.

That’s according to Diario de Navarra, who say they had ‘a letter sent’ asking about the defender’s situation as part of a last-minute effort to bolster Steve Cooper’s defence.

Forest made no fewer than seven signings on deadline day of the summer transfer window, bringing in Ibrahim Sangare as well as the likes of Andrew Omobamidele, Nicolas Dominguez, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Odysséas Vlachodimos, Divock Origi and Nuno Tavares.

There was a particular focus on improving the defence with the arrivals of Vlachodimos, Omobamidele and Tavares and they weren’t the only ones looked at.

Reports had linked them with a move for García and Osasuna sporting director Braulio Vázquez has even publically admitted they didn’t respond to a request for the player.

Diario now follow that up and say that there had been interest from Premier League teams and ‘a letter sent’ by Nottingham Forest to ask about his situation.

That letter, though, ‘did not go any further’, suggesting Forest never stepped it up beyond asking about the player and what he may cost.

The centre-back is currently rated at €20m, for those who may be curious, and it seems either that or some or factor stopped those in charge at Nottingham Forest from taking their interest any further.

The focus is now very much on the January transfer window, when it’s suggested there will be interest in the Osasuna man again.
