Nottingham Forest have made contact regarding appointing Argentine manager Jorge Sampaoli, according to claims from South America.
Goal Brasil today writes that the Tricky Trees have ‘sought’ the coach as an option to replace Steve Cooper.
For now, Nottingham Forest only ‘initiated contact’ with Sampaoli, who’s still to give an answer about that.
The reason why the Brazilian media is reporting this is that Flamengo are also chasing him. They’re set to sack manager Vitor Pereira and already rushing for a replacement.
So while Sampaoli takes his time to respond to Nottingham Forest, it’s said he’s aware of the interest from the Rio de Janeiro club, even though they’re still to make contact with him.
Working in the Premier League is obviously more attractive than moving to Brazil, especially for Sampaoli, who already managed Santos and Atlético Mineiro in the South American country before.
However, all Nottingham Forest can offer him this season is the chance to escape relegation. Meanwhile, at Flamengo, he’d take charge of the current Copa Libertadores and Copa do Brasil champions, at one of the richest clubs in the continent, and would definitely be given the chance to fight for big titles.
