Following all the recent rumours claiming Nottingham Forest could be on the verge of signing Odysseas Vlachodimos from Benfica, a new turnaround is today reported by the Portuguese media.
Newspaper A Bola writes that teven though the player has already been convinced by the Tricky Trees, he’s still to give the transfer the final ‘green light’.
The reason is that he still hopes that a German club will show up and make an offer for him in the coming hours.
It’s claimed that Vlachodimos is no longer against a move to Nottingham Forest. Despite the fear of being loaned to Olympiacos at some point, he asked the Reds to ‘guarantee’ that wouldn’t happen.
However, he’s ‘exploring other possibilities’, such as a move to Germany, and currently waits to see if something interesting shows up.
There’s no problems between Benfica and Nottingham Forest, who are said to be close to an agreement. The Tricky Trees offer €9m including bonuses, and the Eagles demand €9m.
What the Reds really need is for Vlachodimos to be fully convinced about the move, and maybe a lack of offers from Germany will do that.
Quoted by A Bola, former Benfica physical coach Mário Monteiro said: “If there’s a good offer for Benfica I think they should do the deal, it’s clear that’s what they’ll decide. Find a good financial return and sell the player because he’s unhappy. And if the coach realises that Vlachodimos isn’t the goalkeeper to defend now, he won’t take it very well. Vlachodimos was born to always be a starter and that doesn’t happen in football.”
