Nottingham Forest have tried to sign AS Roma’s Jan Ziolkowski early in the summer market. An agreement wasn’t reached but is very possible.
Sport Witness covered how after initial progress, a move for the defender was being held up. The reasons weren’t clear but the Italian side were still keen on moving on from the talent.
His exit would grant them a capital gain, with the defender having joined them on a permanent deal back in 2025. They paid €6m for him and with FFP issues bothering the Giallorossi, Ziolkowski’s sale is seen as a way to get rid of those problems.
While Nottingham Forest remain in the picture for the youngster, they might also need to deal with Roma for an outgoing.
Savona attracting interest
ASRomaLive make it clear that a management shakeup at Nottingham Forest led to them slowing down for Ziolkowski. This probably refers to Lina Souloukou’s exit. She has had a good working relationship with the Serie A giants since her time in the Italian capital.
Despite that, the Midlands club are ‘crazy’ about the 21-year-old and can soon push ahead.
Roma, meanwhile, are now interested in Nicolo Savona and it is believed this can add a new impetus to the Ziolkowski deal.
It will bring the clubs back on talking terms, which can led to the Pole being discussed once again. The outlet make it clear that the two deals will be separate, as Roma need their accounts to show a capital gain due to FFP reasons.
Moreover, Roma are confident they can sign the Nottingham Forest player for around €17m.
This will hand Vitor Pereira’s side a capital gain too, as they paid Juventus €12m last summer.
Ziolkowski’s valuation is not mentioned but it is likely to lie around the €20m mark.
Our take: Forest should go ahead with deals
Savona’s injury problems in the 2025/26 season were a real red flag. He has a history with muscle and knee injuries and they were also evident during his time in Turin.
This should concern Nottingham Forest, who now have a chance at earning a capital gain, despite the problems around him.
Bringing in Ziolkowski could be excellent too. Even while playing less than 1000 Serie A minutes, he showed he can make the cut in the top-flight. He is only 21 and is already an established Poland international.
Since the financials of the two deals aren’t too far apart, going ahead with them could be a win-win for Pereira’s side.
