Nottingham Forest appear interested in signing a defender from Brazil and this can impact Sunderland’s move for Jhon Lucumi.
The Colombian’s current deal at the Italian club runs out in 2027. They have failed to tie him down further, with the player set to feature for Colombia at the World Cup.
Sport Witness have covered how Sunderland pushed for his signature in the summer. They had an offer on the table but the Rossoblu weren’t keen on losing more players, having sold Dan Ndoye and Sam Beukema in the same window.
Now, Bologna might not have a choice due to his contract situation and are pursuing replacements. That is where Nottingham Forest can jump into the situation and move for Gremio’s Viery.
Target attracting English interest
Tuttomercatoweb appear certain that Lucumi will depart in the summer. He is very attracted to the possibility of a more ambitious experience, especially as Bologna won’t play in Europe next season.
The Italian side see Gremio’s Viery as a replacement. They view him as someone who can quickly make Bologna forget about Lucumi but Nottingham Forest are offering competition.
They aren’t the only club in the chase, as things stand. Bologna know that and are already trying to study the feasibility of a summer move.
They are sure Viery has a future with the Brazilian national team. He is described as an ‘indispensable brick in the wall’ for Gremio, even if he is only into his first full season with the club. As a result, they do not want to miss out on the opportunity, with the left-footed defender’s current deal running out in 2029.
Viery can solve long-term need
Nottingham Forest’s Murillo has constantly been linked with a move from the City Ground for about a year. As they haven’t qualified for Europe, there is a chance he could be snapped up by another club in the summer.
Viery can become a long-term replacement for Murillo and is unlikely to cost a massive amount. Considering how confident Bologna are about him, there is every chance his value increases considerably in the next few years.
The Italian side are rarely wrong about players. That is evident from how they have sold on the likes of Dan Ndoye, Riccardo Calafiori and Joshua Zirkzee.
Santiago Castro, Jonathan Rowe and Lucumi have developed well at the Renato Dall’Ara. That is exactly why their interest in Viery should be seen as a major positive by Nottingham Forest.
