Nottingham Forest will not sign striker Lorenzo Lucca on a permanent basis this summer when his loan from Napoli comes to an end.
Tuttomercatoweb report that Nottingham Forest have already communicated their decision to Napoli. The Italian side now need to find a new destination for the 25-year-old.
Nottingham Forest decision
The website reports that Nottingham Forest have made a definitive decision on the Napoli striker, who joined on loan in the January transfer window. That deal includes an option to buy, but Nottingham Forest will not be using it.
That comes after the striker has managed just one goal in nine games and 361 minutes during his time in England to date. Now they have communicated that to Napoli.
Antonio Conte’s side will now have to find a new home for Lucca this summer. That should not prove to be too complicated, but a permanent transfer is unlikely given he cost Napoli €34m.
Bologna option
Bologna are a potential destination. They made a ‘subtle but very concrete’ move for Lucca in the January transfer window. That move never happened as he headed to Nottingham Forest on loan instead.
But they train a strong interest in the striker despite that. To fund a move, they will need to sell Thijs Dallinga and recoup the €15m investment they made in the Dutchman in the summer of 2024. He was due to leave before Lucca joined Nottingham Forest. Now that is likely to be revived.
Lucca’s move to the City Ground can be labelled a disaster. He’s only manager four Premier League games to date but has featured five times in the Europa League. He’s not had the impact that they were hoping for, to say the least.
Now he’s set to return to Italy this summer, with another movie inside Serie A the most likely option for him. That’s for Napoli to work out, after Nottingham Forest made their stance clear.
