Earlier this month, Calciomercato IT mentioned Nottingham Forest as a suitor for Inter Milan’s Stefan de Vrij.
The veteran centre-back’s agent Federico Pastorello later indicated that his future is being considered, with Inter yet to make a decision on a renewal.
Nottingham Forest have now been given encouragement of a January transfer.
This comes from TuttoSport, who report talks for De Vrij’s renewal at Inter are on hold.
In addition, he’s only played three times in Serie A this season and wants to play more, as he hopes to be at the World Cup next year.
De Vrij would now be interested in a January exit. Nottingham Forest are interested, as they want to sign a centre-back next month to bolster their backline.
Benfica are providing major competition though, having made an enquiry already. Saudi club Al Ittihad have been keeping an eye on the Dutchman for years. Their interest can also resurface again, but he hasn’t been keen in the past.
The 33-year-old’s contract at the Nerazzurri expires at the end of June. Nottingham Forest will not have to pay a significant amount for a January move while signing a highly experienced defender who can still play at the highest level.
