Nottingham Forest are watching Cuiabano’s form peak at the perfect moment, as the left-back has now become Botafogo’s joint-top scorer in the Brazilian league while his 2026 status remains unresolved.
Brazilian newspaper O Dia highlights that his goal last weekend took him to five in the competition, placing him among the most prolific defenders in the league this season.
Cuiabano is currently level as the second-highest scoring defender in the Brasileirão. He has also surpassed Botafogo’s Alex Telles, Savarino and Chris Ramos, despite starting the year as Telles’ understudy. His influence has grown under manager Davide Ancelotti, who now sees him as a key part of the team both in possession and in the final third.
Botafogo signed Cuiabano in April last year for R$ 7m before selling 70% of his rights to Nottingham Forest for €4m (£3.4m) in the summer. Forest then sent him straight back on loan to ensure regular minutes, and his performances have justified the plan: over 70 matches played, a starring role in the run-in and consistent attacking output from full-back.
O Dia note that Botafogo want to keep him, but the decision rests with Forest and will only be addressed after the league ends. Crucially, other Brazilian reports have already claimed that Nottingham Forest want him back in 2026, suggesting the Premier League club see a clear role for him next season.
Now comes the reminder that he has turned into one of Botafogo’s most decisive players in the meantime, making Forest’s final decision even more significant.
