With Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag today confirming that Cristiano Ronaldo is staying with the Red Devils, that was enough for the Italian media to calm the rumours about his potential move to Napoli.

In the past few weeks, among the endless stories about the Portuguese stars’ future, it was many times repeated that he could be involved in a deal with the Serie A side, where Victor Osimhen would move the opposite way to Old Trafford.

Well, with those chances now completely dismissed, it was time for Napoli to turn down the rumours as well. And interviewed by DAZN today, club director Cristiano Giuntoli claims the Manchester United forward was never seriously in their plans.

“He’s an extraordinary footballer and we can only exalt him, but there was nothing true. We read so many things in the newspapers, but there was never anything concrete,” Giuntoli told DAZN (via Tutto Mercato Web).

Cristiano Ronaldo must now work to convince Erik ten Hag he deserves a chance in Manchester United’s starting team. In the Red Devils’ first four matches this season, he started three of them on the bench, and only played for the 90 minutes in the disastrous 4-0 loss to Brentford. With the rumours of a departure now calming, perhaps he can now be 100% focused.
