For the past few days, claims from both Italy and Turkey have named Newcastle United as being interested in Galatasaray star Nicolò Zaniolo. Last week, TuttoMercatoWeb reported the Magpies have initiated contact to sign the 24-year-old.
On Monday, Takvim stated Eddie Howe’s side and RB Leipzig will knock on the Istanbul club’s door with an ‘official offer’ this week. Sabah then backed up Newcastle’s interest and said they are ready to pay €35m for the attacking midfielder.
Following these claims, Milliyet’s Galatasaray correspondent Nevzat Dindar got in touch with the Turkish champions for an update on the reports linking Zaniolo to Newcastle.
Galatasaray’s managers have informed the journalist that ‘nothing came to us’ about a possible offer or approach from the Premier League side. He adds the Italy international is expected to remain at the club he joined in January.
The Turkish side conducted an event for their fans at their stadium on Sunday and the former AS Roma man was one of the main attractions.
Dindar explains that Zaniolo’s presence at the ceremony is a ‘message’, which he feels would suggest Galatasaray don’t intend to sell him this summer.
