When you’re playing for Beerschot, being picked out as one of the best performers in Europe on any given week isn’t the likeliest turn of events.

However, the unlikely came true for Loïc Mbe Soh on Monday as French newspaper L’Equipe, well known for their weekly selections, placed him in their team of the week, which covers the continent but excludes French football. The 23-year-old had performed well in a 2-1 victory over Anderlecht and found himself in the team alongside the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann.

Mbe Soh only moved to Beerschot in August, leaving Nottingham Forest when his contract with the Premier League club expired.

The central defender had initially joined Nottingham Forest in 2020 from PSG, later going out on loan moves to Guingamp and Almere City.

Speaking to Gazet van Antwerpen, he’s been asked why the move to England didn’t work out for him and conceded it was probably simply the wrong choice choice to make at that stage of his career.

Gazet van Antwerpen quote the youngster as saying: “In retrospect, that was not the right club for me at that time. I was also plagued by injuries. And to be successful in football, everything has to be right. That was not the case at Nottingham Forest. But you can’t dwell on that for too long. That’s football. It’s part of it. Move on.”

Following the end of his contract with Forest, Mbe Soh didn’t immediately get a new club and had to train alone waiting for opportunities. Beerschot showed up in late August and it looks like he’s making the most of it.
