West Ham United‘s Tomáš Souček wants to put a disappointing season behind him and focus on the World Cup.

The midfielder has made it Miroslav Koubek’s Czech Republic squad for the tournament in America, Canada and Mexico.

He was a regular for West Ham, who dropped out of the Premier League on the last day of the season.

On March 20th, Sport Witness relayed news the Hammers had put his renewal on hold. He earns €350-390k per month and that’ll drop to €100k following their relegation.

West Ham player focusing on World Cup

Tomáš Souček is now preparing for the World Cup in America and after the latest training, iSport caught up with him at a hotel in Morristown.

The 31-year-old explained why he’s had to put the disappointment of West Ham United’s relegation behind him.

“I’m sorry, but now I’m fully focused on the World Cup. I’m here with the boys, we’re playing big games. It’s been our dream for several years. We’re here, my full readiness is for these games. And what will happen at the club will only be after some vacation,” he said.

He graduated from Slavia Prague’s academy and spent 15 years at the club before leaving them permanently in 2020 for West Ham.

When asked whether his former club is an option, Souček explained: “I’ve put what happened last season behind me. I’m 100% focusing on the national team. Whatever happens will happen later.

“Right now, I have a clear head for a month, focused solely on the national team. I want to achieve what we came here for. Only then will I focus on that other part of my football life again. It’s probably not the answer you wanted to hear, but right now, the national team is the most important thing for me.”

Last month, Slavia Prague manager Jindřich Trpišovský said he will return to the club one day and iSport now specifically ask about his comments.

Responding that, he added: “That’s just gossip spreading around the Czech Republic—or, especially for you guys, the showbiz world. [smile] I’m chill; I’m enjoying the World Cup and the football I love.

“Some things [rumours] in the Czech Republic, other things in England, and maybe still other things in other countries. But I don’t worry about it too much; I’m focused on the national team.”

What next for West Ham man

Tomáš Souček’s contract expires in 2027 and he’s valued at €10m by Transfermarkt.

His latest admission is a clear indication there won’t be any movements regarding his future until after the upcoming tournament.
