It’s no secret Ajax are doing everything they can to keep Antony at the club for at least one more season, despite Manchester United’s strong wish of signing him in the final days of the transfer window.
Club manager Alfred Schreuder today spoke to the local media following the Champions League draw, and was obviously asked about the Brazilian’s situation. There, he made it clear he wants the 22-year-old in his squad.
“I also expect him to stay. Why? Because I’m his coach. But of course it’s not up to me. I don’t decide who will or will not be sold. But I’m counting on him to stay.”
Covering the quotes, De Telegraaf points out that Manchester United continue to offer ‘a lot of money’ for Antony. They claim Ajax already turned down a €80m bid for the winger, and ‘it’s expected’ that the Premier League side will soon come up with a new attempt which will get close to €100m.
Schreuder, however, doesn’t really care about the price the Red Devils are willing to pay for the winger, as he’s actually concerned about the many players Ajax have already lost in the current transfer window.
“I think €80m is an incredible amount of money and I have that with €100m. But we’ve already let a lot of players go.”
“We want to keep a strong squad. And new players have arrived. We have also told them what our plans are.”
This summer, the Dutch side already sold Lisandro Martinez, Sebastian Haller, Ryan Gravenberch, Perr Schuurs, Nicolas Tagliafico and Dominik Kotarsi, besides losing others at the end of their contracts.
