Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech has been urged to look at a move to Spain, as that might suit him better than the Premier League.
That’s according to Ruud Gullit, who has criticised Chelsea’s use of the Moroccan star since his arrival from Ajax.
Ziyech joined Chelsea in a €40m deal from the Dutch giants in July 2020 after four very successful years at the Amsterdam ArenA that saw him score 49 goals and assist 81 in 165 games for the club.
He has come nowhere near to replicating that with Chelsea, struggling to establish himself under Frank Lampard, Thomas Tuchel or current manager Graham Potter.
A tally of 14 goals and 11 assists in 97 games is far from the record many were expecting him to have and he has been linked with a move away for the past two transfer windows as a result.
That continues to be the case, particularly after Ziyech showcased his ability with Morocco at the World Cup, where he as a key player in his country’s run to the semi-finals of the tournament.
That showed he remains a talented player and Gullit believes it is not solely the player’s fault he has struggled at Stamford Bridge.
“The way Ziyech plays with Morocco, I haven’t seen him play for Chelsea [like that] yet,” he told Rondo, relayed by Fean Online.
“That’s not just down to him. I think Chelsea have occasionally put him in positions that don’t suit him. He should just play on that right-hand side.
“I wonder. I think he will do better in Spain; I think. I feel he never reached Ajax level in England. I like to see him in Spain. He can reach the top.”
