On Wednesday, AS reported Aston Villa are eyeing a move for FC Porto’s Samu Aghehowa in the summer window in what could be a profitable deal for all parties.

They also stated the Premier League club see the striker as an ideal candidate to replace Jhon Durán, who left Villa Park for Al-Nassr in the winter market.

Thursday’s edition of A Bola relays AS’ claim about Aston Villa’s interest in the 20-year-old and then gives their own take.

The Portuguese club paid €15m to buy the player from Atlético Madrid last summer and Los Rojiblancos will receive 50% of the profit from his future sale.

His contract lasts until 2029, and includes a €100m release clause, which is double his current valuation as per Transfermarkt.

The Spain international has scored 18 goals and registered three assists from 29 games in all competitions this season. The newspaper states he is ‘not in great form’ at the moment as he’s failed to score a goal this year.

Aghehowa has played eight games for Porto in 2025 and has only one assist, which came in his side’s 1-1 draw against Sporting.

Porto sacked Vítor Bruno in January and appointed Martín Anselmi as his successor later that month.

A Bola claim the player desired by Aston Villa is ‘going through a desert’ under the current manager because his system doesn’t suit Aghehowa.

This may be one of the reasons why the frontman is looking for a way out and Aston Villa could be an option for him.
