Last weekend, Diario de Sevilla reported Brentford have made a formal offer, worth close to €30m, to sign Real Betis’ Assane Diao in the winter market.

It was also stated the Premier League side have proposed a top-level contract to the 18-year-old, and both he and the La Liga side are evaluating things.

ABC Sevilla claim Real Betis don’t know anything about Brentford’s offer but are well aware of what’s been reported in the press.

The winger was promoted to the first team earlier this season and has scored four goals from 18 games so far. He can operate on both wings. This, coupled with his form and potential has seen other clubs, including Thomas Frank’s side, take notice.

Brentford technical director Lee Dykes has refused to discuss the Real Betis player.

“If it’s about Diao, I’m not going to talk. Because there is nothing to talk about,” he told ABC Sevilla.

When the newspaper directly asked the official whether the Premier League side will make an offer for Diao in January, he once again stated “there is nothing to talk about”.

ABC Sevilla highlight Brentford paid €25m for Kevin Schade in 2023 and that would be around the figure that Real Betis are demanding for Diao.

Given the two clubs are talking down the hype around this potential transfer, the assumption would be the information has come from the player’s camp.
