Brian Riemer’s appointment as the next Denmark manager has been questioned in the Danish media.
The former Brentford coach was today installed the country’s new coach, but DR Sport have asked why the likes of Thomas Frank has been overlooked.
DR Sport journalist Andreas Kraul has spoken about the appointment of Riemar, and he’s revealed the 46-year-old wasn’t the first choice.
Kraul went on to say Brentford’s Frank was a coach who was being floated about as an option in the Danish press, but ultimately it came down to who was available.
“He is not DBU’s first choice. They have had many people interviewed, and it has also been about who has been available. When others have pointed to Thomas Frank and other names as well, the DBU has of course also inquired about who is available and on the market,” said Kraul.
Riemar spent four seasons at Brentford and along with Frank, the Dane helped the London club to promotion to the Premier League in 2021.
His work with the Bees didn’t go unnoticed and he was named Anderlecht manager in 2022. However, he struggled during this time with the Belgian club and was eventually dismissed last month.
Frank has continued to progress Brentford, leading to speculation of interest from other clubs.
