Kristoffer Klaesson left Leeds United in July of this year, allowed to do so as a free agent after failing to make the breakthrough at Elland Road.
The 23-year-old, who has represented Norway at all youth levels, signed for Polish club Raków Częstochowa and things went badly right from the start.
As far as the Ekstraklasa club were concerned, Klaesson had arrived from Leeds United overweight. He was told to lose weight and reduce his fat percentage.
This all ended up public, and then Raków Częstochowa suporters spotted him in a McDonalds, which had the inevitable consequences.
Klaesson was clearly being forced out and his face hadn’t fit since he arrived from Leeds United.
Subsequently his time at the Polish side only lasted 37 days.
He’s now without a club, and Sportbladet have quoted him as saying: “It goes without saying that this did not turn out exactly as I had expected and hoped for. We quickly ended up in a situation I was not happy with, we agreed that it was best for both parties to separate. In recent weeks, I have continued to train hard to be in the best shape possible. I feel well, am very motivated and look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead of me.”
It may be for the best that he cut his Polish adventure short so quickly, as there’s no point in staying somewhere if the odds are so clearly stacked against him.
Now it’s a case of finding that new opportunity and rebuilding a promising goalkeeping career.
