Tottenham Hotspur are counting on Luka Vušković amid Barcelona’s plan to bring him to La Liga.
That’s according to Sport, who cover when Barca would consider signing the Tottenham player in the summer.
The 19-year-old has been on loan at Hamburg SV since last summer and has impressed for the Bundesliga side.
His displays are making the German club, and their fans dream of retaining him beyond this season.
The Tottenham owned player also wishes to continue with them, to play with his brother, Mario. He’s at Hamburg and is serving a doping ban until November.
Earlier today, Sport Witness relayed news from Germany that Hansi Flick wants a new centre-back in the summer. Vušković is as an option and Barcelona have had first talks with his agent.
Barcelona’s plan for Tottenham man
Sport relay that and provide their own information on the possibility of the defender joining the Catalan club.
Pau Cubarsí and Eric Garcia are currently both untouchable for Flick and Barca. Gerard Martín and Ronald Araújo’s futures need to be clarified, and if one of them were to leave, a new centre-back needs to arrive.
The Croatia international can be an option in that case. The newspaper state the Spanish giants have positioned themselves with his agent, Pini Zahavi.
It’s wort noting the representative has ‘very close’ relationship with Barca president Joan Laporta and has good ties with the club. He also represents Fick and Robert Lewandowski.
Despite the close ties with the agent, Sport insist it’s ‘not easy’ for the Blaugrana to take Vušković away from Tottenham. That’s because the north London club plan to count on the central defender for the future.
However, Spurs’ ‘project is not progressing well, and the player also has doubts about joining a team’ that immediately sent him on loan. Tottenham are now 16th in the table, a point above 18th placed West Ham United.
Vušković’s contract and value
The Croatian has a contract with the Premier League side until 2030. The report points out Spurs paid €11m and his valuation now is €40m.
Sport would have taken this figure from Transfermarkt, which has increased by €22m since joining Hamburg.
If Tottenham were to sell Vušković, the fee they would demand would certainly be much higher than €40m. Spurs are unlikely to sell a young talent with a huge potential for a reasonable price.
