This week, reports from Brazil have been claiming that Chelsea are getting closer to signing Matheus França from Flamengo.
We’ve even seen claims saying that the player’s entourage believe the deal will be done in the coming days, as there’s optimism from all sides.
Flamengo, however, haven’t confirmed the talks yet. Club chief Bruno Spindel held a press conference on Thursday, and as quoted by One Football, he dismissed having any bids from Chelsea for the transfer.
“We were not contacted and Flamengo never spoke about amounts and willingness to negotiate França. We had a firm proposal in January. We don’t talk about assumption. If something formal comes in, we’ll look into it and respond. There’s nothing at the moment,” said Bruno Spindel.
Journalist Jorge Nicola claimed this week that Chelsea are offering £19.75m for the signing, while Flamengo demand £21m. With such a short distance between the amounts, there’s a strong belief the deal will soon be agreed.
That same report claims that even if they succeed in the pursuit, the Blues don’t plan to use França this season, as they’ve already decided they’ll be loaning him out to French side Strasbourg. That’s the same thing they’re doing with Angelo, who’s arriving from Santos and is believed to be taking the final steps to be confirmed as Chelsea’s new signing.
