Ibrahim Sangaré may be regretting his decision to leave PSV Eindhoven for Nottingham Forest in the summer, with the move yet to work out.
That’s according to journalist Rik Elfrink, who says the midfielder departed the Dutch side with ‘tears in his eyes’.
Sangaré moved to Nottingham Forest in a €35m deal in the summer after several years impressing for PSV and establishing himself as a key player at the club.
He had longed been linked with a move to the Premier League, but it was eventually Nottingham Forest who secured him, paying big to bolster then manager Steve Cooper’s squad.
Indeed, he hasn’t managed 90 minutes for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side since the middle of November, although that is slightly skewed given he missed moat of January thanks to his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Either way, he’s featured less than expected and Elfrink believes he may regret picking Nottingham Forest in the first place.
“He had such a good time here, in Eindhoven,” he said.
“When he left in August, I saw him and that touched me. I thought it was very impressive that he left here with tears in his eyes, I haven’t seen that often. As a person, Sangaré had a good time in Eindhoven.
“No, it did not become the dream step that was initially thought. The Premier League suits him, but it is a great shame that it has not turned out positively for him so far.”
