At this point, there’s no more denying the ability of Emiliano Mártinez, as the Aston Villa goalkeeper was one of the heroes on Sunday night for his country.
Much like he has done on numerous occasions in the past, the player proved decisive in a penalty shootout, helping Argentina lift the World Cup.
Now, he will be given some time to recover and rest before returning to Aston Villa, who will be counting on him to continue his form under Unai Emery in the Premier League.
How long he stays at Villa Park beyond that remains to be seen, as there are likely going to be a number of suitors after him going forward, such is the scarcity of world-class goalkeepers on the market these days.
His agent, Gustavo Goni, however, isn’t helping matters, giving an interview to TuttoMercatoWeb, where he mentioned a potential move to Serie A.
He said: “Today, there are few teams that can afford a goalkeeper like him, but Serie A, well, why not? He clearly aims high, for the Champions League.”
We all know Aston Villa, as things stand, aren’t in a position to offer him football in Europe’s elite competition, meaning that if he wants to feature there in the near future, a transfer will have to be sorted.
