Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Steven Alzate has been criticised by former Belgian manager Marc Wilmots, who wants to see more from the Colombian.
Alzate is currently on loan at Standard Liege in Belgium, having joined them in the summer in search of regular playing time following his injury issues last season.
He’s been a regular for them this season, featuring in 16 league games so far and starting 14 of those as he looks to get regular game time and build up his fitness.
That means he has been in the starting 11 78% of the time this season and featured in 74% of the available minutes, although a tally of one goal and one assist in those is not something to write home about.
The Brighton man would have been hoping for a better tally, particularly as he is likely to return to the Seagulls in the summer and fight for his place there.
If that’s to happen it seems he’ll have to improve, though, with Wilmots less than impressed by what he has seen so far from the Brighton player.
“He is always lined up well, but as a defensive midfielder he is not aggressive enough, not strong enough. He is a good player on the ball, but he does not assert himself,” he told La Tribune, relayed by Voetbal Nieuws.
