Norwich City’s Danish colony continues to expand, with Mathias Kvistgaarden joining from Brøndby this summer. According to Oscar Schwartau, one of Norwich’s young attackers, he played a small part in convincing his former teammate to make the move to England.
Speaking to Tipsbladet, Schwartau revealed that Kvistgaarden had asked him about the club before accepting the offer.
“I think I was home that weekend when we saw each other,” he said. “He told me Norwich were interested and asked me what I thought about it. Of course, I could only say good things about the club, and luckily it ended with him joining Norwich. You could say I helped a bit by talking the club up.”
The 19-year-old forward has featured in seven matches this season and already scored once. He says the atmosphere and familiarity at the club have made a big difference. “It was one of the reasons I came here in the first place. To get playing time and feel important again,” he added. “It takes some adjustment, but I feel comfortable now.”
Norwich City now have five Danish players in the squad, and Schwartau believes this bond helps everyone adapt faster. “It’s nice to have some Danes around, especially when you already know some of them from back home,” he explained. “We spend a lot of time together. There’s not much to do in Norwich apart from training, so we hang out, eat out, play PlayStation and watch football. It’s always Brøndby we watch.”
The forward highlighted that this off-pitch unity also strengthens their performances on the field. The Danish group supports each other, easing daily life away from home. Norwich’s strategy of recruiting Scandinavian talent appears to be paying off, with players like Emiliano Marcondes, Pelle Mattsson and Kvistgaarden settling quickly into the team.
While Schwartau keeps building momentum at Carrow Road, he is also representing Denmark’s U21 side in the early stages of European Championship qualifying. Kvistgaarden, meanwhile, continues to adapt to English football, adding to the growing influence of Danish players at Norwich City.
