Inter Milan’s apparent interest in Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez has been dismissed. That’s because the Italian side are only interested in Tottenham Hotspur’s Guglielmo Vicario.

The dismissal come from Gazzetta dello Sport. They report that there are no negotiations to bring the Aston Villa goalkeeper to Milan. He doesn’t have the characteristics that the Nerazzurri are looking for.

A report two days ago stated that Inter Milan had initiated contact to sign Martinez this summer. That was followed by his agents being spotted in Milan for potential talks.

Inter are set to replace Yann Sommer in the summer and Martinez was reportedly the one being targeted. Gazzetta, though, say reports about the Aston Villa star are nonsense.

According to their information, the name at the top of Inter’s list is Tottenham number one Vicario. They’ve been monitoring him for months. He’s seen as the ideal replacement for Sommer.

He was very close to joining Inter in the past but was convinced by Tottenham and joined them instead. He would now gladly return to Italy if Inter came calling.

Thus, there have been no negotiations with Martinez or his camp. The rumours about a move are ‘unsubstantiated’. While he may be destined to leave Villa Park, Gazzetta believe it won’t be for the San Siro.

There’s a possibility the Aston Villa goalkeeper’s agents have been pushing the Inter Milan claims out, in the hope of building interest. Alternatively, perhaps the Italian club have spoke to Martinez’s agents, been shocked by the overall cost, and pushed the line out they were never interested anyway.

Falling back to Tottenham’s Vicario makes sense, given there’s been Italian confidence for months that he wants out.
