Leeds United being linked with a late window swoop for Eduard Spertsyan is causing a bigger fuss in the Russian media than that local to the Championship club.

The midfielder’s club Krasnodar are currently top of the Russian Premier League, but it’s a very close battle. They have 39 points, as do Zenit in second place, with Spartak Moscow on 37 and Dynamo and Lokomotiv both on 35.

Therefore, Krasnodar selling Spertsyan to Leeds United at this point would be a surprising step for them to take and it’s generally been thought the Armenia international will stay where he is until the end of the season.

Given all of that, Russia’s MatchTV decided to contact Leeds United to simply ask them if the transfer claims have anything behind them or whether it’s just another rumour in the mill.

MatchTV report the reply they got was: “No, that’s not true.”

The 24-year-old himself has also talked down chances of him moving midway through the season and sees himself staying at Krasnodar for the coming months at least.
