Maximilian Wöber has starred for Borussia Mönchengladbach since joining them on loan from Leeds United in the last window.
Earlier this month, Gladbach sporting director Nils Schmadtke hailed the centre-back as a ‘warrior’ but refused to discuss the possibility of extending his stay beyond this season.
Wednesday’s Rheinische Post has a report on the Leeds owned player, titled ‘no shoes are too big for Wöber’.
The report states the defender arrived at the German club to ‘fill an important gap’ in the squad and focuses on what lies ahead for him in the coming months.
Leeds appointed Daniel Farke in the summer and the 25-year-old signalled to the manager early on that he wanted to join Gladbach. He’s played eight games this season, managing two assists in the process.
Focusing on his displays, Rheinische Post say there’s no one like Wöber at Gladbach and they ‘benefit from him in many areas’. That includes his defensive capabilities, ability to create chances from set pieces and his leadership qualities.
The Bundesliga side made Julian Weigl’s loan stay permanent for €7m at the end of last season. The report highlights this and adds that it’s ‘still too early to talk about figures and timings’ to purchase the Austria international from the Whites.
The newspaper states the possibility of Gladbach buying Wöber will depend on whether or not Farke’s side will return to the Premier League next season.
Wöbe’s deal at Leeds runs until 2027.
