Bournemouth star Adrien Truffert has admitted he’d find it hard to turn down France this summer if they do come calling for him.
The 24-year-old could be in line for a call-up to the France squad for the World Cup this summer after impressing at Bournemouth this season in comments to RMC Sport.
Premier League performance
The left-back joined the Cherries in a €13.5m deal from Stade Rennais last summer. He was brought in to replace Milos Kerkez and has done that with aplomb.
The defender has quickly established himself as a key player for Andoni Iraola, which may put him in France’s eyeline.
Truffert has played for his country at every level, featuring for the U18s, U19s, U21s U23s and senior team. But five of his six appearances came under Thierry Henry in the Olympics. Only one, his full debut against Denmark in September 2022, were under Didier Deschamps.
Now he’s in the Premier League, and impressing at Bournemouth, that might change. He admits he wouldn’t turn down the call.
“No player would refuse the French national team. Every player who plays in a major league and performs reasonably well has it in the back of their mind,” he said.
Bournemouth the priority
The defender, though, is adamant that he doesn’t play focusing on France. Instead, it’s all about what’s best for Bournemouth.
“I’m 100% focused on Bournemouth,” he added.
“I don’t start a match thinking, ‘I have to perform for the French national team’. You shouldn’t set limits for yourself.” But if the French national team calls me up, I’ll be there.”
The question is what Didier Deschamps decides. He travelled with an extended squad in the last international break. That includes three left-backs: Lucas and Theo Hernandez, as well as Lucas Digne.
Even if one of those aren’t available, the French boss still has plenty of options. Adrien Truffert may have an advantage as he’s playing in the Premier League. He also has international experience, albeit one appearance to date.
It seems the Bournemouth man is ready to answer the call should it come in the coming months.
