Nobody from Leeds United has contacted Rayo Vallecano over manager Andoni Iraola despite reports he is on the list of potential replacements for Jesse Marsch.
That’s according to journalist Pablo Villa Castilla, who insists the Spanish side are yet to be contacted over their highly-regarded boss.
Marsch was sacked by Leeds yesterday after a disappointing run of form that culminated in the weekend’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest and left the Whites outside of the relegation zone on just goal difference.
Leeds are now on the hunt for his replacement and several names have already been linked, including Iraola, who has been impressing in Spain this season.
He has led Rayo Vallecano to fifth in the table and just three points outside of the top four, a remarkable achievement for a club whose expenditure was considerably less than the sides they find themselves around in the table.
It means Iraola has a growing reputation and that has found him quickly linked with Leeds, although reports in Spain have made it clear a move is unlikely at this point.
That’s backed up by Castilla, who told Radio Marca that “at this point no one from Leeds United has called Rayo Vallecano to ask about Andoni Iraola” when asked about the speculation.
“What Andoni Iraola is doing at Vallecas is impressive,” Marca report him saying.
“He has Rayo 5th in La Liga without making a lot of noise or doing extraordinary things. Understand me well, to have Rayo 3 points away from the Champions League in February is extraordinary per se.
“But Iraola in Vallecas has managed to make the ordinary, the normal, the day to day, so good that being so high up is nothing more than a natural consequence.
“Rayo is a team that plays like angels. Iraola has built a team from the individual virtues of each of his players.”
