On April 19th, Cadena Ser stated Newcastle United could emerge as an option for Atlético Madrid’s João Félix in the summer. It was also stated Diego Simeone is keen to get rid of the forward.

The 23-year-old’s relationship with Simeone deteriorated earlier this season and only one of them is expected to be at the club next season.

Wednesday’s Marca states the La Liga side have decided to stick with their manager, they add that Newcastle have emerged as a ‘solution to the João problem’.

The Portugal international is on loan at Chelsea until the end of this season. Even though they seem to be close to finding an agreement for a new deal, there isn’t anything firm so far. The Magpies now ‘appear on the horizon’.

Newcastle are third in the table, a point ahead of fifth placed Liverpool and with a game in hand. Champions League qualification can favour them in the summer since the player is ‘so obsessed’ to play in this competition.

Eddie Howe’s side are backed by PIF. Therefore, ‘no one is surprised’, including the Madrid club, that Newcastle ‘go strong’ for the former Benfica star. If they take him away from Atlético, it would be ‘one less problem’ for the latter.

Simeone’s side are expecting an offer to reach around €100m for Félix and Newcastle have the ‘economic potential’ to meet their demands.

The economic potential and Champions League football are the factors that could favour the Magpies to carry out a potential deal.

Despite Marca pushing the €100m figure for Félix, there’s a likelihood Newcastle could get for him a lot less, or even move for an initial loan with purchase option.
