Chelsea tried to sign Jules Kounde in the summer 2021 transfer window.
The effort went beyond rumours, with the Spanish club themselves speaking about the approaches for their defender. The Frenchman was thought to have agreed personal terms for a move to the Blues, yet given the clubs involved couldn’t agree a fee, he stayed at Sevilla.
Ahead of the current transfer window it had been widely expected Kounde would quickly move, with Chelsea easily looking the likeliest destination. That Thomas Tuchel was losing two central defenders on free transfers encouraged that feeling further, however, nothing concrete has happened on the case.
Marca report ‘there are no offers’ for Kounde, despite him being repeatedly linked with Chelsea and Barcelona. The Catalan side would have problems raising the fee, and whilst that isn’t the case for the London club, it’s insisted they still haven’t come forward with a bid.
Much of Sevilla’s summer business depends on what happens with Kounde, as his sale would allow them to reinvest the transfer fee elsewhere.
The situation seems to be perfect for Chelsea to go in and get the player, yet Marca state they have made no concrete effort to do so.
