Celta Vigo are waiting for Wolves to make a decision about Fer Lopez as they hope to bring him home this month.
That’s according to Faro de Vigo, who cover the midfielder today. They say the Spanish club’s confidence about getting Lopez back, which was cockiness really, has now turned to a frustrating wait.
Vigo are determined to get Lopez back from Molineux this month. He left for Wolves in the summer but has barely featured since. Now he wants to go home, either on loan until the summer or next summer.
A deal was seen as practically a given. In fact, Celta even focused their efforts on making space in their squad so that he could return. There has been little movement since the January window opened, though.
Faro report that while the market is focused on Lopez, everyone is waiting on Wolves. The Premier League’s bottom club are yet to provide their conditions for negotiating a loan for the midfielder.
Wolves are not in any hurry
The player and his agent, Jorge Mendes, have made Wolves aware that they only want Celta. But it seems Mendes is yet to provide any real push beyond that. Perhaps Wolves, too, are waiting for him to make his proposal and provide clarity.

While everyone seems to think Lopez departing is an inevitability, nobody seems to be pushing it forward. Other players with higher salaries are the priority for Wolves right now.
Celta Vigo are relying on Mendes to exert pressure eventually so that Lopez can returned to Balaídos before January 31st.
The deal is certainly there to be done, but everyone is currently holding and waiting for the other to make their move before that happens. At this point, the focus seems to be on Mendes doing the legwork for Wolves and Celta.
