Leeds United sealed their first away win of this campaign against Liverpool on Saturday.

Crysencio Summerville was the hero for the Whites as his late goal help the visitors seal a 2-1 win over the Reds.

After finding the back of the net in Leeds’ 2-3 defeat to Fulham on October 23rd, Jesse Marsch started the winger against Liverpool. The 21-year-old repaid his manager’s faith and helped his side seal their third league win of this season.

The Premier League club took the Netherlands U21 international from Feyenoord in 2020. Willem van Hanegem played for the Dutch club also managed them for three years between 1992 and 1995, and he’s discussed Summerville’s latest goal at the weekend.

“To still enjoy football, I drove to The Hague yesterday to watch a major street football tournament. How beautiful can football be, with all those guys who give everything to win and occasionally conjure up the most beautiful movements from their hips,” Van Hanegem told Algemeen Dagblad, as relayed by FR12.nl.

“The name Crysencio Summerville was very common there. How wonderful for that kid to score such an important goal for Leeds United at Anfield.”

Van Hanegem has questioned the Eredivisie side’s decision to let Summerville leave for Leeds, especially since they are now looking at players similar to his profile.

”The boys I saw in The Hague often played football on the street with Summerville in the past. Feyenoord had him in the house, but unfortunately he never broke through there,” he said.

“Yes, of course you could already see that he had the pure qualities. The club is now looking for those kind of players, small wingers with a quick action. For the Brazilian Igor Paixão, small, fast and agile, they even paid millions.

“When I see Summerville, I think: Feyenoord would have made it better in the long run. Had [they] done everything they could to keep him, even if they had Steven Berghuis in front of him. But at the time, Luciano Narsingh was also preferred, no idea why.”

Summerville’s recent performances for Leeds have left Van Hanegem disappointed with his former club’s transfer decision. Should Marsch’s man continue to shine this season, then Feyenoord could regret not betting on him.
