Manchester United are potentially looking to strengthen their attacking division on deadline day after they agreed a deal with Inter Milan for Romelu Lukaku.
Even before giving a green light for the striker’s sale, El Chiringuito in Spain reported that United have set their sights on Athletic Club Bilbao’s Iñaki Williams.
It was also explained the Red Devils are willing to pay the forward’s release clause of €88m.
The 25-year-old started his side’s preseason friendly against AS Roma on Wednesday and after the match, Athletic manager Gaizka Garitano responded to rumours linking the player to United.
“The player has not told me anything. While the market is open, anyone can leave if they pay the clause. It is not a subject that I can control,” Garitano said, as quoted by El Correo.
According to El Correo, the Basque club doesn’t know anything about the reports linking their star to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. In addition to this, Bilbao have ‘no fear’ of losing their attacker because of his release clause.
Williams’ Bilbao teammate Dani Garcia also talked about Manchester United’s rumoured interest in the former.
“Williams is very calm. If I were United or Madrid, I would sign him, but we are very calm with him. Maybe you have to value those things more, so that people like Williams stay with us and have the pride of wearing this shirt,” Garcia explained.
