Over the past few weeks, Nottingham Forest fullback Renan Lodi has been linked to his former club Athletico Paranaense.
It all started with his wife, who’s pregnant, saying they’re ready to have their child in their home country. Then the player himself was seen training at the Brazilian club.
But as Globo Esporte today features a story about Lodi welcoming Gustavo Scarpa to Nottingham Forest, they also rule out his move to Athletico, at least for now.
Lodi is actually loaned to the Reds by Atletico Madrid, and the possibility of a transfer to Brazil would only happen after the end of his deal with the City Ground side.
It’s pointed out that the ‘contractual situation’ with Nottingham Forest makes the move ‘complicated’ now because the Reds have a buying option over him for a five-year deal.
Globo Esporte even managed to speak to Lodi’s agent Pablo Miranda, who claimed he hasn’t been in touch with Athletico Paranaense president Mario Celso Petraglia.
“I haven’t spoken to Petraglia about Lodi since 2019. The last conversation I had with him was about Cirino’s return. Lodi renewed his contract with Atletico and today he’s at Forest until June. There is no chance of him leaving, and we respect the signed contracts.”
Globo Esporte don’t seem to know the exact figures of the deal between Atletico Madrid and Nottingham Forest, taking claims from the Italian press to say the Reds spent €5m on the loan, and have a buying option worth €30m.
