Leeds United signed Brenden Aaronson and Rasmus Kristensen from Red Bull Salzburg last summer and they raided the Austrian club again in the winter market.

The Whites took Maximilian Wöber from Salzburg in January and he was one of the three players to arrive at the club last month.

After having come off the bench in the two matches, the midfielder made his first start for Leeds in their FA Cup replay against Cardiff City. Since then, he has played the full 90 minutes on four occasions.

Red Bull Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund had a chat with STANDARD over a few topics, where he explained the Austrian champions are a stepping stone for some players to get a move to a bigger club.

The chief used the Austria international’s transfer to Leeds last month as an example to explain his point.

“Max was an important player both on and off the field. We want to make dreams come true, but in the end, we had no arguments for [him] staying. We also have limits,” Freund said.

“…for many people the gateway to the big world. We have earned this reputation. We must maintain it, agents and clubs know that we are a top address.”

Wöber impressed for Leeds in their latest 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
