While the news that Christopher Nkunku will have to undergo surgery and will be out for the foreseeable future was a blow for Chelsea, it has also given them an unexpected transfer boost.
This is what Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting on Wednesday, as they look into the latest information about the deal bringing Dusan Vlahovic to Stamford Bridge with Romelu Lukaku going to Juventus.
You all know the deal now, with it being a Belgian + money affair for the Serbian, despite there being some pushback from both sides.
Chelsea’s Mauricio Pochettino was reportedly not overly convinced that Vlahovic would be the right fit for him, while the striker wasn’t too keen on joining another team without European football when staying at Juventus would give him the exact same experience.
That being said, Gazzetta point out that Nkunku’s injury has changed everything, as it is now ‘almost urgent’ for a new striker to come in.
His absence ‘plays in favour’ of Juventus in the negotiations and could also ‘force Chelsea’ to cough up more money to please Cristiano Giuntoli.
That isn’t the boost, however, with that being that the space created by Nkunku’s injury ‘could also convince Vlahovic to accept the transfer more willingly’.
Something to keep in mind as the two clubs ‘seem destined to find an agreement’ eventually on the price.
