Nicolo Fagioli has become one of Fiorentina’s most important players, however, the threat of Tottenham Hotspur signing him is rising.
The Italian has played 32 times in Serie A this season, contributing to five goals. He didn’t start the season in the most impressive way but his influence has grown, with Fiorentina now heading towards a mid-table finish.
His performances have already been attracting interest from England. Sport Witness have previously covered Tottenham’s initial contact, with Newcastle United also in the list of suitors.
Tottenham interest floated again
Corriere dello Sport report on Fagioli’s form and their admiration turns into an account of Tottenham’s growing interest in the player.
The newspaper are certain that Spurs have set their sights on the Italy international. Roberto De Zerbi is keen on adding quality to his midfield and sees Fagioli as someone who can help achieve that goal.
There are no official offers but it is believed that Tottenham are considering trying to convince the player and his club.
As things stand, La Viola see Fagioli as a key part of the project. However, hey are aware that if ‘mind-blowing offers’ come in, they won’t be in a position to reject. They will use the money earned to sign a replacement, knowing that Fagioli’s value has grown enough to attract major clubs.
Fabio Paratici’s involvement will be important too, with the Italian having only left Tottenham relatively recently.
Finances unlikely to be a worry
Corriere dello Sport also cover the financials. The 25-year-old weighs at around €18m on Fiorentina’s accounts, with the Florence club likely to hunt for a capital gain. Part of the fee earned will go to Juventus, who are due a 10% of the profit.
Fagioli earns only €1.8m per season, making him someone who could be easy to tempt with a higher salary.
Our take: Fagioli may fix midfield problems
De Zerbi has identified an accurate problem at Tottenham. The technical floor of the team is low. A lot of midfielders aren’t adept at beating the press or dictating the tempo, which will make Fagioli a wise signing.
Not only is he versatile and can play across the midfield, but is known to be a tempo-dictator. That is why he was called up to the European Championships in 2024 by the Azzurri.
The manner in which he has grown in Florence, despite their struggles, speaks volumes for his leadership. He is a player that Tottenham have identified, and there’s good reason for that.
