Tottenham Hotspur’s negotiations with Inter Milan over Cristian Romero continue to gather pace, and the Italian club are now reported to be working on the personal terms they hope will convince the defender to return to Serie A.
The latest update comes only hours after we covered images from Italy showing the defender’s agent, Ciro Palermo, in Milan alongside intermediary Vincent Casella.
Now this latest update is centred on what Inter are prepared to put in front of the Argentina international if talks with Spurs continue to move in the right direction.
According to Argentina’s Noticias Argentinas, Inter have already begun contacts with both Tottenham and the player’s entourage. They are looking to accelerate discussions, as they try to make Romero one of their marquee signings of the summer.
Italian outlet FCInterNews has picked up the claims. It highlights the Nerazzurri’s plan to secure the defender with an attractive long-term contract.
Inter’s proposal taking shape
The report states Inter are ready to offer Cristian Romero a lengthy deal. Along with that, they will offer a salary that would place him among the better-paid players in their squad.
The Serie A side believe those financial terms, combined with the sporting project on offer, could persuade the Tottenham defender to return to a league where he previously excelled with Atalanta.
Inter have reportedly identified Romero as one of their priority targets and want to push forward with negotiations over the coming weeks.
Tottenham still hold the cards
Despite Inter’s work on the player’s contract, the biggest hurdle remains reaching an agreement with Tottenham.
Noticias Argentinas stress that any deal will ultimately depend on Spurs’ demands for one of their captains. Romero is still under contract in north London and regarded as one of the most valuable centre-backs on the market.
The report describes agreeing personal terms as only the first stage of the process before the clubs can attempt to find common ground on a transfer fee.
For now, Inter appear to be putting the groundwork in place. With discussions continuing on multiple fronts, the Italian club are making sure they have their proposal ready. Just in case negotiations with Tottenham progress to the point where Romero’s own approval becomes the decisive factor.
