Leeds United’s Diego Llorente is set to play for AS Roma next season if claims coming out of Italy are to be believed.
The Serie A side had the defender on loan in the first part of this year and want to strike a new agreement with the Whites for another loan deal.
Sport Mediaset state Roma general manager Tiago Pinto has ‘reached an agreement’ to sign the Leeds player in this window.
The report adds the 29-year-old is also keen on this deal and his return to Roma could be sealed in the ‘next few hours’. The only aspect of the operation that needs to be clarified is whether the Italian club will have an option to buy as part of the deal.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Giallorossi are keen to sign the Spaniard because José Mourinho ‘insists so much on having him back’ at the club. Prior to their time at Roma, the pair had previously worked together at Real Madrid.
It’s claimed the Portuguese coach was pleased with how he became a leader off the pitch at Roma. This has convinced Mourinho to make Llorente a priority target and Pinto has now managed to striker an agreement with Leeds.
Corriere point out Tiago Pinto’s good relationship with Leeds helped him in negotiations for Llorente.
