Earlier this month, we covered claims from Spain which stated Newcastle United are back in action for Barcelona’s Raphinha.
Friday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo mentions Newcastle’s interest when providing the latest on the winger’s future.
The La Liga side have an urgent need to raise funds, so they can register players and carry out new signings. They have identified the 27-year-old and İlkay Gündoğan as candidates to help them make money.
Three weeks ago, Barcelona received a €65m bid from Saudi Arabia for Raphinha, but he didn’t consider it. The Brazil international isn’t worried about his game time even after Dani Olmo’s arrival this summer.
He remains hopeful that Barca don’t end up signing another attacker in this window. If they do, it’s not ruled out for the former Leeds United man to open the door for a transfer.
With regards to Newcastle, it’s claimed they have asked about the attacker. Mundo further add the Magpies’ ‘proposal did not advance’.
Eddie Howe’s side can take advantage of Barca’s desperation to sell Raphinha, if they are keen to sign him. Newcastle will then have to convince the player because he’s ‘unwilling to accept offers’ at this moment in time.
