Dutch striker Bas Dost is reportedly very close on leaving Sporting, as he nears a move to Eintracht Frankfurt.
This is the end of a tiring summer for the 30-year-old, who has been linked to several clubs in the past few months.
One of the interested sides were said to be Newcastle United, and as newspaper Record brings some details on the striker’s situation today, they have a little to say about the Magpies.
The outlet says the player had several offers of between €12m and €15m, while the Premier League side wanted to get him on a loan deal and an option to buy.
However, despite Bas Dost’s positive answer to many of them, especially those from Spain, German and England, they were all rejected. In Newcastle’s case, Record says the bid was it’s said it was ‘promptly’ turned down by club president Frederico Varandas.
The funny thing is that Sporting held so much and are now selling Dost for around €10m, according to the local press. So perhaps they will regret not having accepted some of those first offers.
