On Monday, we covered a claim from Italy that Newcastle United have initiated contact over signing Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso. It was also reported the Magpies will need €10-12m to secure his services in the summer window.
Tuesday’s edition of Corriere della Sera backs-up Newcastle’s interest in the 30-year-old when discussing La Dea’s plans for this summer.
The 30-year-old lost his place in the starting lineup to Marco Carnesecchi in December. His deal lasts until 2025, and he would be allowed to leave the Serie A side in this window.
Gian Piero Gasperini seems to be in favour of letting Muso leave, considering the manager wanted to resolve the goalkeeping issue, and bet on Carnesecchi, last summer.
Villarreal have liked the Argentine for a while. They are joined by Eddie Howe’s side in the transfer race, according to multiple Italian claims.
Atalanta paid €20m to sign Musso from Udinese in 2021, and the report says ‘half of that will not be enough’ to get him this time.
In other words, Newcastle or any other club wanting to sign Musso have to pay more than €10m.
Atalanta may be forced to lower their demands to avoid losing Musso for free next year, and that contract situation would benefit Newcastle and Villarreal.
