It seems Newcastle United are still to make their move to sign the Vasco da Gama youngster Marrony.
Earlier this week, it was reported in Brazil that the player was watched by Steve Nickson, who approved his signing and ‘signalled’ they could make a bid soon.
Now Band reporter Lucas Pedrosa comes up with an update. He confirms that Newcastle are interested in the player, but says an offer is still to come.
He also claims that besides Sporting, there are another Portuguese clubs in the race for the player, one of which is Porto.
The belief in Brazil is that despite Marrony’s €35m release clause, he could leave the Rio de Janeiro side for much less.
Something we found interesting is that when reporting the news yesterday, outlet Gazeta Esportiva said the bid will be made before the end of the week. They haven’t even credited Globo Esporte, who made the original report, so that may be something to keep an eye on.
