Widely expected to become a Huddersfield player over the summer, Anthony Limbombe’s move to the Terriers was cancelled at the last minute, with the player eventually ending up at Nantes in Ligue 1.

Reports appearing a few months later revealed why the Premier League side had pulled the plug, as the winger wanted to become the club’s best paid player, which David Wagner and co. refused to agree to at the time.

Fast forward to January, and it appears the Belgium international could get a second chance at making it to England’s top-tier, as Newcastle are working to bring him to St James’ Park on transfer deadline day.

According to 20 Minutes in France, the 24-year-old ‘should’ leave the French club to join Rafa Benitez, although the nature of the deal remains a question mark, with the outlet suggesting it might be a loan.

Adding his bit of information, former Nantes employee Emmanuel Merceron stated the Magpies were ‘working very hard’ on Limbombe’s arrival, but the deal was ‘very complicated’.

That being said, Newcastle are ‘hoping’ to finalise it before the end of the window at 11pm UK time.
