On Tuesday morning, Spanish outlet AS suddenly showed up with a tweet about Newcastle United’s interest in Gabri Veiga.
There, it was claimed that the Magpies are willing to pay for midfielder’s €40m release clause, and offer him over €5m net per season.
That wasn’t the first time Newcastle’s interest in the Celta Vigo star was reported, but it’s also known that they’re not the only club trying this signing. That’s why Cadena Ser’s (via Mundo Deportivo) story on Real Madrid interest in the 20-year-old comes out at an interesting time as well.
The outlet says the Galacticos have two formulas to get Veiga signed. One is to trigger the release clause and the other is to offer less, but with a player included.
It’s claimed that Celta Vigo would appreciate an offer worth €25m plus the transfer of Rafa Marin, who’s been approached by several clubs. That would be a way to make ‘the two parties satisfied’.
So for Newcastle to win that battle, they better start planning their bid to convince Celta of not taking Real Madrid’s offer.
