It’s no revelation that Newcastle United are interested in signing Gabri Veiga from Celta Vigo, as several reports from Spain have been talking about that pursuit.
But what really draws attention today is the way AS write about the chase, making it clear that the Magpies lead the race for the signing.
Even though several Premier League sides are said to be keen on the player, AS today writes that Newcastle are ‘the first to decidedly go’ for the jewel.
The big reason for that is that the Magpies are willing to trigger Veiga’s release clause, which stands at €40m. It’s highlighted that this price tag won’t change, as the player is turning down a renewal offer from Celta Vigo.
Newcastle are also said to be offering the midfielder a ‘very succulent’ contract, paying him over €5m a season. That’s said to be a salary that other clubs will ‘hardly reach’, regardless of how high salaries paid by Premier League clubs are.
AS believe there’s competition from Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United, and their offers could arrive in the coming weeks. The 20-year-old is set to evaluate the ‘sporting project’ of the interested clubs, and not only be seduced by the financial offers.
