Newcastle United will be securing ‘the bargain of the summer’ if they sign Celta Vigo midfielder Gabri Veiga for €40m.
That’s according to AS, who say the Spanish side will not be looking to increase that figure ahead of a summer in which most of Europe seems determined to sign their rising star.
The newspaper explains that the option of improving Veiga’s contract, and thus increasing his €40m release clause, is ‘not on the table’ at this moment in time.
Unlike the developing situation around him, which is moving at rapid speed, that situation is ‘immovable’ and will remain that way in the coming months.
Although there has been speculation that Celta Vigo will look to shield Veiga with a new deal that is not a possibility. There is no intention to touch the deal they agreed ten months ago that ties him to the club until 2026.
His release clause in that deal is €40m and ‘will remain’ at that point moving forwards, despite such a figure making the ‘revelation of La Liga’ the ‘big bargain’ of next summer.
The roadmap for the player will not change for the player despite Pini Zahavi recently becoming his agent. Nor will a call up to the Spain squad change the situation.
It now remains to be seen where the youngster ends up, with Newcastle United among those reportedly interested in his signature.
A report two days ago stated they would do ‘unspeakable’ things to secure the youngster’s signature and get him ahead of the competition.
That was followed by claims that one of those big competitors, Real Madrid, were not willing to pay his €40m release clause.
That was a potential boost for Newcastle United hopes, as is this latest report, which makes it clear the price won’t be rising from its bargain value anytime soon.
